Behandelt neben Schlaf, Bewegung, Sex, Hygiene und Drogen vor allem die Ernährung, insbesondere die Qualitäten und Eigenschaften zahlreicher Lebensmittel, einschließlich ihrer Zubereitung. Obwohl es sich eher um ein populäres als um ein wissenschaftliches Werk handelt, stellt es eine Synthese aus wenig bekannten jüdischen und arabischen Lehren über Lebensmittel und allgemeineren westlichen Texten dar. Der Autor (1449-1528) war Medizinprofessor in Padua und ein Arzt, der in seinem Beruf beträchtlichen Ruhm und Reichtum erlangte.
"Important traité de dietetique et d'hygiene d'un celebre medecin de Padoue qui connaissant et aimait le vin. Les chapitres 42 a 63 sont consacres au choix des aliments et des boissons. L'auteur consacre une importante partie de son ouvrage au vin, a l'art de boire" (Simon).
