Erste Ausgabe des Atlasbandes. - "Erst 1685-86 erschien eine modernen Ansprüchen genügende monographische Behandlung der gesamten Ichthyologie: die Historia piscium " (Nissen, Fischb. S. 17). - Willughbys Lehrer und Freund John Ray veröffentlichte nach dem frühen Tod des Naturforschers Willughby (1635-72) dessen zoologische Werke, so auch das vorliegende.

EINBAND: Neuer Kalbledereinband mit Rückenvergoldung. 39 : 25 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Folge von gestochenem Titel von Paul van Somer und 187 Kupfertafeln. - ZUSTAND: Ohne die Tafeln N2 und R2, dafür die Tafeln B9 und G6 zusätzlich eingebunden. - Tafeln sämtlich mit Eintragungen von alter Hd., 10 Taf. mit kl. mont. Bezeichnungsschildchen, einige Taf. gebräunt, Titel und erste 10 Taf. knapper beschnitten. Einbd. leicht berieben, Rücken verfärbt.

Very rare large size atlas of fishes of Willughby. "The first large English work on ichthyology" (Wood). First edition of the atlas volume. Series of engraved titles by Paul van Somer and 187 copper plates. New calf with gilt spine. - Without plates N2 and R2, but plates B9 and G6 also included. - All plates with entries by the old hand, 10 plates with small mounted labels, some plates browned, title and first 10 plates trimmed more tightly. Binding slightly rubbed, spine discolored.
